Women's Water Polo Ready for Nationals

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's water polo team, currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, is headed back to the USA Water Polo Division III Championships this weekend for the second straight season after wrapping up the 2023 campaign with an overall record of 9-10, including a 9-2 record against Division III opponents.

After finishing third in the nation at last season's inaugural Final Four, the 'Roos are back in the national title mix in this year's event hosted by Augustana on Saturday and Sunday. The 'Roos enter the championships as the No. 4-seed, taking on No. 1-seed Pomona-Pitzer, which is also currently ranked No. 1 in the nation. The 'Roos and Sagehens will square off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in game two of the championships. This will mark the first time that Austin College and Pomona-Pitzer will have ever met, after a game scheduled for early in the 2022 campaign was canceled.

Last season, the 'Roos fell to Whittier in the semifinal round before dropping Augustana in the consolation game. This season, the 'Roos went 1-2 against Augustana, which enters the championships as the No. 2-seed after winning the CWPA. The 'Roos have won five of their last six games, with the lone defeat coming in the CWPA title game against Augustana on April 23. The winner of Saturday's semifinal will advance to the national championship at noon on Sunday, with the consolation game set to be played at 10:00 a.m. that same day. All of the weekend's games will have both live video and live statistics provided by Augustana.
