'Roos Close Out Regular Season with Pair of Wins

KENOSHA, Wis. - The No. 5-ranked Austin College women's water polo team wrapped up its weekend trip to Wisconsin with a pair of victories over Wittenberg and host school Carthage on Sunday, topping Wittenberg 9-8 before cruising to a 16-2 win over Carthage. The 'Roos are now 7-9 overall, including 7-1 in CWPA play.

The 'Roos got a pair of goals from three different players in their victory over Wittenberg to start the day, with Aubrey Pasky, Alyssa Ross, and Lauren Olivier each finding the back of the cage twice. Austin College fell behind 2-1 after the opening quarter, but Katherine Cox and Olivier would each tally in the second quarter to give the 'Roos the lead before Wittenberg squared things up heading into halftime.

Austin College took control in the third quarter, outscoring Wittenberg 4-2 in the frame to go on top 7-5, and McKenna Malone scored early in the fourth to make it an 8-5 margin. Wittenberg battled back with two goals to pull within one before Pasky scored what would prove to be the game-winner to make it 9-7. Wittenberg tallied with under a minute left in the game, but Austin College was able to hold on in the game's closing moments. Maddie Jacks also scored in the game for the 'Roos, and Erin McCormack had 11 saves while tending the net.

Austin College ended the weekend in dominating fashion against Carthage, going up 3-1 after the first quarter and 7-1 at halftime. The 'Roos erupted for six third quarter goals to make it a 13-2 game heading into the fourth, closing things out with a 3-0 fourth quarter to seal the win. The 'Roos used a balanced scoring attack in the game, with Olivier scoring three times while Cory McGrath, Kalissa Niles, Pasky, Malone, and Ross each tallied twice. Jacks, Cox, and Ashley Chand, and scored once in the victory.

With the regular season over for the 'Roos, next up are the CWPA Championships in St. Paul, Minn., from April 21-23.
