Women's Water Polo Splits with Augustana and Macalester

KENOSHA, Wis. - The No. 5-ranked Austin College women's water polo team split its two CWPA games on Saturday on the campus of Carthage, dropping a 13-8 decision to No. 7-ranked Augustana before bouncing back with an 8-4 win over Macalester.

The loss to Augustana marks the first of the year against a Division III opponent for the 'Roos this season, as Austin College fell behind 3-2 after the opening frame and trailed 5-3 at halftime. Augustana built an 8-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter and erupted for five goals in the final stanza to pull away for the win. The 'Roos and Augustana have now split their two games so far this season.

Lauren Olivier scored four goals to pace Austin College and Aubrey Pasky added three for the 'Roos, with McKenna Malone tallying the other score.

Austin College rebounded with a dominant defensive win over Macalester to cap off the day, going on top 3-0 in the opening frame with Alyssa Ross, Maddie Jacks, and Cory McGrath each finding the back of the cage in the game's first eight minutes. The margin grew to 5-1 at halftime, with Ross tallying again while Katherine Cox also provided a goal.

Austin College only got one goal in the third as Macalester narrowed the margin slightly to 6-3, with Ross once again getting on the board, and she'd get her fourth goal of the game in the game's final quarter. Kate Askew also scored in the quarter to help lift the 'Roos to the 8-4 victory.
