'Roo Water Polo Falls Twice on Day One of the Bruno Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Austin College women's water polo team opened up the 2023 campaign against a pair of Division I opponents on Saturday at the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown University, falling 10-5 to Bucknell and 18-9 against Long Island University.

The 'Roos fell behind 3-1 in the opening quarter against Bucknell in their first game of the day, and the margin would grow to 6-1 at halftime. Austin College used a big third quarter to chip away at the deficit and make it 8-4 heading into the fourth, but were outscored 2-1 in the game to make it a 10-5 final. Lauren Olivier paced Austin College with two goals, while Cory McGrath, Alyssa Ross, and Aubrey Pasky each tallied once for the 'Roos.

McGrath had a big game against LIU in the second competition of the day, tallying three goals for the 'Roos. Kylee Noble chipped in two goals in the game, in which the 'Roos found themselves trailing 6-3 after the opening quarter and 9-3 at halftime. The third quarter was a high scoring affair on both sides, with the 'Roos finding the back of the cage four times while LIU scored eight more goals to make it 17-7 leading into the fourth quarter. 

Olivier added a goal in the game and Kalissa Niles scored once as well, while Kate Askew also scored and McKenna Malone notched the first tally of her collegiate career.
