SUWANEE, Ga. - Austin College volleyball player Laynie Kovacs has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding play during the team's final weekend of the 2023 season, the league office has announed.

Kovacs, a freshman libero from McKinney, helped the 'Roos finish the season strong, going 2-1 over their final three matches of the season. Kovacs had at least 25 digs in all three matches, with a high of 28 in the team's last SCAC match of the year, a win over Dallas. She totaled 85 digs in three matches for an average of 6.08-per-set. She also totaled 22 assists in the team's three matches, including a career-best nine against the Crusaders, as well as seven against LeTourneau and six against Millsaps.
