'Roos Drop Pair in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College volleyball team suffered its first two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference losses on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Colorado College and 3-0 to No. 10-ranked Trinity. The 'Roos are now 11-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Against the host school, the 'Roos fell 25-20, 25-18 in the first two sets before getting on the board with a 25-23 third set victory. The Tigers would close things out with a 25-21 fourth set, however, to hand the 'Roos their first conference loss of the year. Samantha Graham had 11 kills while TJ Folse and Riley Abernethy each had seven for Austin College, with Abernethy also adding 13 digs. Laynie Kovacs paced Austin College in that department, coming up with 27 digs, while Madison Manning had 22 assists and Brianne Tseng added 18.

The 'Roos closed out the day with a match against nationally-ranked Trinity, falling 14-25, 20-25, 22-25 to the Tigers. Graham once again led the 'Roos offensively, finishing with nine kills in the match with Abernethy chipping in seven kills and six digs while Rita Araya added five kills. Kovacs had 17 digs to lead Austin College defensively, while Tseng and Manning both finished with 11 assists in the loss.

Austin College will look to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Schreiner University to wrap up the weekend trip.
