Women's Tennis Drops Road Match

HOUSTON, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team fell 8-1 in a road match at the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, finishing the weekend with a split of their two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches with the Celts and Texas Lutheran.

The women fought hard but dropped all three of their doubles matches, with Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard falling 4-8 at line one doubles while Maya Leisey and Madelin Hiler dropped an 5-8 decision at line two. Elena Aventa and Danielle Saltzman were also defeated by a score of 4-8 playing flight three doubles.

In singles competition, Sierra Thomas delivered a line six victory with a match score of 6-4, 6-1. Francis fell 3-6, 2-6 at line one, Shapard was on the losing end of a 3-6, 0-6 decision, and Leisey fell at flight three singles by scores of 1-6, 0-6. Hiler dropped her line four match 3-6, 1-6, and Megan Morris battled through three sets but ultimately fell 6-3, 2-6, 9-11.
