Thiele's Record Swim Highlights Day Two of SCAC Championships

GARLAND, Texas - Sammi Thiele broke the Austin College program record and took home second place in the 200 individual medley, and the Austin College finished day two of the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet in sixth place on both the men's and women's sides on Thursday.

Thiele's time of 2:03.03 was less than half a second off of first place in the 200 IM, and ranks as the second fastest time in SCAC Championship history behind Thursday evening's winner, Trinity swimmer Neely Burns. Thiele also turned in the second fastest 100 back time in program history with a time of 55.99 as the lead off leg of the team's sixth place finish in the 400 medley relay, with the senior teaming with Cassidee Levine, Izzy Schultze, and Lola Barcus-Schafer. The quartet came in with an overall time of 4:22.12, three seconds faster than their seed time.

The 'Roo men's 400 medley relay team of JonAustin Blaine, Tyler McDermott, Alex Lai, and Kamil Murugan placed fourth in that event with a time of 3:42.10, which was also three seconds faster than their seed time. Overall, the men's team finished the day with 75 total points heading into Friday, while the women head into day three with a score of 111
