Thiele's Historic Performance Highlights 'Roo Swimming's Road Weekend

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams each finished sixth at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Trinity this weekend, with Sammi Thiele breaking her own Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record in the 100 backstroke and earning three NCAA B-cut times.

Thiele started her big weekend by becoming the first women's swimmer in conference history to post a sub-56 second time in the 100 backstroke, coming in with a time of 55.35 to break the conference mark she set at last year's championship meet and earning her an NCAA B-cut time in that event, and she came up just short of another SCAC record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.39, less than half a second off the conference mark, to qualify for another B-cut and placing her first in that event at the meet as well.

She rounded out her historic weekend with another NCAA B-cut time and another first place finish in the 200 individual medley on Friday, coming in with a time of 2:05.39, more than four seconds faster than the second place finisher. The Austin College women finished with 162 points at the meet to finish sixth out of seven teams competing, and the men also came in sixth with 63 total points as a team.

On the men's side, Caelan Sutton had a standout meet to lead the 'Roos, posting personal best times in the 100 backstroke (56.56), 100 butterfly (54.27), 100 freestyle (48.72), and 50 freestyle (22.97).
