'Roo Men Top Ozarks, Women Come Up Short

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's swim team defeated visiting Ozarks 153-87 on Saturday, while the women were edged by the Eagles 150-107 in Hannah Natatorium.

Both the men and the women got first place points right at the start of Saturday's meet, with each winning the 200 medley relay. The women's team of Sammi Thiele, Cassidee Levine, Izzy Schultze, and Jordan Armstrong took first with a time of 2:05.89, while the men's quartet of JonAustin Blaine, Gabriel Fulton, Caelan Sutton, and Zake Eklund touched with a time of 1:50.15.

Thiele delivered an individual victory in the 100 backstroke, coming in with a time of exactly one minute, while Kamul Murugan finished second on the men's side in that same event with a time of 1:00.02. Reese Richmond took second in the 100 breaststroke for the 'Roo women with a time of 1:28.75, while Fulton won that event on the men's side, touching with a time of 1:14.15.

Eklund picked up a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.41, and Thiele added another victory for the women with a time of 25.79 in the 50 freestyle. Eaton and Murugan finished first and second in the 50 free for the men, with Eaton finishing with a time of 23:30 while Murugan was right behind him with a time of 23.47.

Eaton took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.39, and Thiele continued her big day with a time of 2:10.74 in the 200 back, nearly 11 seconds faster than the second place finisher for the women and three seconds ahead of any of the top finishers on the men's side.

In the 200 breaststroke, Murugan came out on top with a time of 2:38.32 for the men, and Alex Lai gave the 'Roos first place points in the 400 individual medley, coming in with a time of 4:51.36. The men closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, with the team of Eaton, Murugan, Sutton, and Race Johnson finishing in a time of 1:34.07.
