Thiele Wins Gold on Day Three of SCAC Meet

GARLAND, Texas - Sammi Thiele became just the third Austin College women's swimmer to ever win an individual championship at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Friday, breaking the conference record in the 100 backstroke to bring home the gold.

The 'Roo women finished the third day of competition in fourth place, while the men are currently in sixth. Thiele's victory earned her All-Conference honors for the second time so far in this year's meet, as she finished her event with a time of 56.22, breaking the old conference record by 0.07 seconds. That time is also good enough for an NCAA B-Cut.

Thiele also teamed with Lauren Olivier, Becca Tobias, and Liberty Chanin to place fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:06.70, while the men's team of JonAustin Blaine, Alex Lai, Jonas Eaton, and Sean Cookson placed fifth in that event with a time of 3:46.94. Chanin added a sixth place finish in the 500 freestyle, coming in with a time of 1:59.48 in the event. The 'Roos will wrap up the conference meet on Saturday evening.
