Late Offensive Surge Propels Pirates Past 'Roos

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team found itself all square with Southwestern for almost the first 70 minutes of play, but the Pirates erupted for four goals in the final 23 minutes to hand the 'Roos a 4-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon.

Austin College put on a stellar defensive performance through the first half, limiting Southwestern to just seven shot attempts in the first 45 minutes. The Pirates turned up the pressure offensively in the second half, firing 18 shots but Austin College managed to keep the Pirates out of the net despite multiple point-blank chances.

However, the Pirates finally broke through with a goal by Mia Morales at the 67:22 mark, and another score would come five minutes later from Lauren Powell. Jackie Powell would get Southwestern's third goal just under two minutes later to make it 3-0, and the Pirates managed to beat the horn with a goal in the 90th minute by Madison Koehn. Amanda Zyla made eight saves in goal for Austin College, who are now eliminated from SCAC Tournament contention with the loss.

The 'Roos will wrap up their season on Friday with a road game at the University of Dallas.
