Women's Soccer Blanked by TLU

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team fell 4-0 to visiting Texas Lutheran University on Friday evening in the team's last home game of the season, bringing the 'Roos to 5-6-3 overall on the year.

The Bulldogs tallied twice in less than a minute early on in the game, with Alyssa Simien getting them on the board at the 8:10 mark and then assisting on a goal by Klarissa Martinez 47 seconds later to make it 2-0. Austin College clamped down defensively for the rest of the half and was able to create some offensive chances of its own over the final 35 minutes of the opening frame, heading into halftime trailing by a pair.

The score remained 2-0 until the 56th minute, when Elaina Barrientes ripped a shot into the back of the net to make it a 3-0 game. The 'Roos were able to threaten several times down the stretch but couldn't get on the board, while TLU scored once more in the 85th minute on a penalty kick by Kelly Wolfe that just got past a diving Amanda Zyla. Zyla finished with nine saves for Austin College, while Charleigh Phipps had a pair of stops for TLU. The Bulldogs finished the match with a 28-9 shot advantage.
