'Roos Overcome Slow Start to Notch First Win

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team found itself in a 1-0 hole early and continued to trail until late, but the 'Roos tallied three times in the last 15 minutes to earn a 3-1 victory over Dallas Christian College on Monday night. The 'Roos are now 1-0-1 on the year.

Austin College controlled possession throughout the game, including in the early stages, but Dallas Christian managed to get on the board less than four minutes in when Chloe Anderson lofted a ball from the left side of the box inside the right post to make it a 1-0 game. That's how things would stand heading into halftime, despite an 8-5 shot advantage for the 'Roos. The game became even more one-sided from an offensive standpoint after the break, with the 'Roos out-shooting the Crusaders 18-3 in the final 45 minutes, but Austin College was unable to break through until the 76th minute on a tally from Myles McGaha to square things up.

Just as it appeared the game was headed for a 1-1 finish, Brittany Hutton punched home a goal following an errant goal kick by DCC to make it 2-1 in the 88th minute, and less than a minute later the 'Roos earned a penalty kick. After Dallas Christian keeper Victoria Galvan stopped Priscilla Garcia's attempt, Garcia followed her own shot and knocked in the rebound to make it 3-1, and that's how things would finish. Kenedie Lane made three saves in goal for Austin College, while Galvan stopped 10 shots for DCC.
