Austin College Women Clinch SCAC Tournament Berth

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team controlled the action throughout against the visiting University of Dallas, cruising to a 60-45 victory over the Crusaders to lock up a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The 'Roos are 9-15 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

Brooklyn Matthews had 17 points and a career-best 16 rebounds, and Lauren Traylor stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals to lead Austin College in their final home game of the season. The 'Roos shot just 30.8% from the field, but limited Dallas to 25.8% shooting and Austin College outscored the Crusaders 17-8 from the free throw line while also dominating on the glass, with a 53-42 rebounding advantage. 

Austin College jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the opening quarter, and held Dallas to just five second quarter points as they took a 31-17 lead into the break. Dallas narrowed the gap to 41-30 after the fourth, and pulled to within 54-45 with just under two minutes left but that's as close as things would get down the stretch. Lexi Martin, Amarys Cuellar, and Traylor combined to go 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the game's closing moments to help seal the victory. 

Matthews made 8-of-10 shots to get her second straight 17 point performance, while Traylor made 5-of-13 shots overall, including 3-of-5 from long range, and also made 8-of-9 free throws. Martin chipped in eight points, and Cuellar added six points, three assists, and three blocked shots. Taylor Rawls was the lone Crusader in double figures, scoring 11 points off the bench for Dallas. Austin College wraps up the regular season on Friday when they head to Colorado Springs to take on Colorado College.
