'Roo Softball Drops Series Finale to Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell 7-2 to visiting Schreiner University in the final game of their weekend series against the Mountaineers, bringing the 'Roos to 8-21 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

Schreiner took an early 3-0 lead when Kennedy Moody launched a three-run homer over the leftfield fence, but Austin College trimmed the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the third on a two-run hit from Carrie Johnson. Austin College would twice more load the bases, but the 'Roos were unable to get any more runs across. Schreiner, meanwhile, tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 5-2, and added two more insurance runs in the seventh to make it a 7-2 final.

Aubri Dayle Smith took the loss for Austin College, surrendering four runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 3.0 innings of work. Johnson finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and Joli Kirkpatrick added a pair of hits in the defeat.
