'Roos Drop Pair at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader at McMurry University on Wednesday, falling 24-0 in game one and 12-4 in game two.

The 'Roos were held hitless in the opening game of the day, and McMurry put four runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth to grab the early lead. Four more runs came across in the second, and another run was tacked on in the third to make it 9-0 heading into the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the War Hawks exploded for 15 runs to make it 24-0, and that's how things would finish after five innings. Alice Maisonet took the loss, surrendering four runs - one earned - on three hits in an inning of work to start the game.

McMurry took a 3-0 lead after the opening inning in game two but Carrie Johnson doubled home a pair of runs to cut it to a 3-2 game in the top of the second. The War Hawks answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but Lyndsey Busch's run scoring single made it 4-3 with McMurry on top midway through the third. The War Hawks pushed two runs across in the fourth and two more in the fifth, however, as the lead grew to 8-3. Austin College got its final run in the sixth on an RBI double by Chyrsi Hemby, but the War Hawks got four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 12-4 final.

Hailie Swiatkowski took the loss, surrendering six runs, including five earned, on six hits in 4.0 innings of work. Six different players had an RBI for the 'Roos in defeat.
