Men's Water Polo Headed to MPSF Championships

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's water polo team heads to California this weekend for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted by the University of California, as the 'Roos open the tournament on Friday afternoon against Stanford University.

The 'Roos finished the regular season as the second place finisher in the MPSF East Division behind No. 2-seed Augustana, landing them the No. 4-seed at the championships, while Stanford enters as the No. 5-seed after finishing third in the MPSF West Division behind top seed UCLA and host school and No. 3-seed Cal. Austin College will take on the Cardinal at 2:45 p.m. (Pacific) on Friday afternoon as the last game of the opening day of competition.

The winner of Friday's game will take on the winner of Cal and No. 6-seed Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon, while the loser will face the loser of that same game at 11:15 a.m. (Pacific) on Saturday morning.

Austin College wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 6-11, including two tight defeats against Augustana by scores of 9-7 and 15-11, and a pair of decisive wins over PSB, one of their potential opponents on Saturday, by scores of 13-7 and 14-6. Rounding out the field for this weekend's tournament are No. 7-seed USC, who finished fourth in the MPSF West, and Washington & Jefferson, the No. 8-seed and fourth place finisher in the MPSF East. The 'Roos topped W&J both times they competed this season, by scores of 14-9 and 15-10.
