Men's Water Polo Drops Pair to D1 Opponents

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College men's water polo team dropped both of its games against Division I opponents on Saturday, getting narrowly edged by Air Force 15-12 before dropping a 20-6 decision to Santa Clara.

In the first game of the day against Air Force, the 'Roos trailed just 4-3 after the opening quarter before the Falcons outscored Austin College 5-1 in the second to take a 9-4 lead at the half. Austin College closed the gap to 11-8 through three quarters, and managed to cut it to a 13-11 game late before Air Force scored two unanswered and the 'Roos were unable to recover in the closing minutes.

Max Wade scored four goals to lead Austin College and Robert Griffin added three. Andrew Pope, Connor Watson, Brett Skinner, Cade Griffith, and Nik Koelzer each scored once for Austin College, while Alan Rosenberg made 11 saves for the 'Roos.

Against Santa Clara, the Broncos outscored the 'Roos 5-1 in each of the first three quarters to build a 15-3 lead and Austin College was unable to counter, falling 20-6 in the game. Watson scored twice for Austin College, while Nico Masso, Tobias Ward, Dylan McArthur, and Griffith each scored once.
