'Roos Swim Well Against SCAC Foe Southwestern

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams had some strong times and multiple first place finishes against visiting Southwestern University on Saturday, though the Pirates ended up topping the 'Roo men 175-83 and the women 173-73 on Homecoming Weekend.

JonAustin Blaine notched the first individual victory of the day for Austin College, touching first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.39. Sammi Thiele added a first place finish on the women's side with a time of 1:01.13 in the 100 butterfly, and she'd pick up another win in the 100 backstroke, coming in with a time of 1:00.04. The 'Roos swept the top three spots in the men's 50 butterfly, with Rayce Johnson coming in first with a time of 26.53, while David Stanford and Tyler McDermott toook second and third with times of 28.61 and 29.01, respectively.

Thiele earned her third first place finish of the day in the 200 individual medley, topping the next closest opponent by more than 10 seconds and finishing with a time of 2:14.13. Izzy Schultze gave the 'Roos second place points in the 50 back, coming in with a time of 32.43, and Cassiddee Levine's time of 37.32 was good for second place in the 50 breaststroke. On the men's side, the 'Roos picked up some more second place points from Alex Lai, who posted a time of 56.70 in the 100 butterfly, and Jonas Eaton took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.18. Kamil Murugan took third in that same event, touching with a time of 23.78.

Eaton added a third place finish in the 100 free, coming in with a time of 53.07, and Blaine's time of 1:01.36 was good for third place in the 100 backstroke. Jazlynn Lomax gave the women a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:34.05, with Katherine Jackson's time of 1:34.70 landing her in third place in that same event. Lai notched another pair of third place finishes for the men, with a time of 2:13.92 in the 200 IM and 1:05.09 in the 100 breaststroke.
