Season Comes to a Close for Men's Hoops

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College men's basketball team saw its 2023-24 season come to a close on Friday evening with a 78-54 defeat at Colorado College. The 'Roos finish the year with an overall record of 12-13 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 7-9.

Ethan Pearce scored 13 points and pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds for the 'Roos, adding three steals and two blocked shots in the loss. Tristan Dick scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and handed out three assists and Joshua Joe scored 10 points in the final appearance for both players in an Austin College uniform, as the 'Roos were eliminated from postseason play by virtue of Friday evening's loss combined with Schreiner's win against Centenary, and the University of Dallas's head-to-head tiebreaker over Austin College.

It was a four point game at halftime, with the Tigers leading the 'Roos 30-26, but after a Kidus Getenet free throw to make it 39-33 early in the second half Colorado College used a 13-6 run to extend the margin to 52-39 with 9:39 remaining. Austin College was unable to mount a comeback in the game's final minutes, and the Tigers finished the game hitting 44.4% from long distance and owned a 39-10 advantage in bench points. The Tigers also outscored the 'Roos 28-15 at the free throw line, and grabbed 51 rebounds compared to 40 for Austin College. Edgar Romero came off the bench to lead Colorado College with 20 points, hitting all five of his three point attempts.
