Six From 'Roo Football Named CSC Academic All-District

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College football players Evan Dennis, Texas Gordon, Ben Meraz, Colin Mushinski, Jarrett Pleasant, and Eliel Sandoval have been selected as Academic All-District picks for their outstanding performances both athletically and academically.

Dennis, a sophomore defensive back from McKinney, earned his Academic All-District recognition thanks to holding a 3.8 grade-point-average with a major in psychology, while also making 12 tackles in eight games played this season with two pass breakups.

Gordon, a junior defensive back from Tomball, was named Academic All-District on the strength of a 3.65 GPA while majoring in business finance. Gordon, a starting safety for the 'Roos, made 18 tackles with an interception in seven appearances this season.

Meraz, a sophomore running back from Denver, Colo., is an Academic All-District performer based on his 4.0 GPA with a major in finance. Last season, Meraz rushed for 208 yards with a touchdown in eight games for the 'Roos.

Mushinski, a senior wide receiver and returner from Richmond, earned his Academic All-District honors with a grade-point-average of 3.64 in his major of finance. Mushinski caught 37 passes for 427 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Pleasant, a senior defensive back from Magnolia, was named Academic All-District with a grade-point-average of 3.68 with a major in business finance. This past season, Pleasant, a starting safety for the 'Roos, made 56 tackles with a pair of interceptions in nine games played.

Sandoval, a sophomore linebacker from Magnolia, earned Academic All-District recognition with a 3.78 GPA in his major of international finance and econimics. This season, Sandoval made 23 tackles in 10 games.

The 2023 Academic All-District Football teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced January 23, 2024.
 
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are financially supported in part by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is financially supported in part through the NAIA governance structure.
