'Roos Run Past Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Austin College football team used a dominant rushing attack to top Sewanee 21-14 on Saturday afternoon, bringing the team's overall record to 4-2 and Southern Athletic Association mark to 3-1.

The 'Roos piled up 367 rushing yards in the game, with Evan Powell running 11 times for 144 yards, including a long of 72 to lead the way. Bo Garner rushed four times for 73 yards, including his first career touchdown on a 47-yard burst down the sideline early in the second quarter. That score put Austin College up 14-0, with the 'Roos getting their first touchdown on a 21-yard pass from Colt Collins to Aaron Rideaux at the 5:04 mark of the first quarter. Sewanee would get on the board just before halftime, however, taking advantage of four Austin College penalties to make it 14-7 at the break.

Powell's 72-yard burst set Austin College up at the 1-yard line early in the third quarter and Collins plunged in from a yard out to make it 21-7, and that remained the score until late in the fourth when Sewanee hit on a 43-yard touchdown strike from Alex Darras to Jacob Viccari to make it 21-14 with 1:54 left. The Tigers would recover the onside kick, but a pair of sacks by the 'Roo defense helped seal the victory in the closing minutes.

Collins finished the game completing 11-of-21 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown and added 67 yards and another score on the ground. Rideaux led the 'Roos with 49 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Matthew Quenichet had a team-best seven tackles. Connor Carnes added five stops, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss. Carnes had 1.5 sacks, which came on the final Sewanee drive.
