BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Austin College baseball team took one out of three in a road series at Lyon College over the weekend, winning game one 3-0 behind a sterling pitching performance by Trystan Mallory, before dropping games two and three 9-1 and 9-4, respectively.

Mallory tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, scattering five hits with zero walks and four strikeouts, and Brant Stuber came on to earn the save after striking out the side in the series opener. It was a scoreless game until the final inning, when Tripp Thoms got the 'Roos on the board with a sacrifice fly, and Ryan Padfield and RayShawn Riley each drove in a run as Austin College took advantage of some Lyon defensive miscues in the frame. Thoms went 1-for-4 with a double to lead the 'Roos at the plate, as Austin College was limited to four hits in the victory.

Austin College went ahead 1-0 in the second inning of game two on a sacrifice fly by Greg Smith, but the Scots evened things up in the bottom half of the inning and plated two more runs in the third to make it a 3-1 game. Lyon pushed four runs across in the fourth to extend its lead to 7-1, and then scored once more in the fifth and again in the sixth, and Austin College was unable to get the bats going to mount a comeback. Thoms and Asher Thompson each went 2-for-3 to pace the 'Roos, and Jonas Ceballos took the loss for the 'Roos after surrendering our runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work.

In the final game of the series, Lyon took a 1-0 lead in the second, and that remained the score until the fifth when the 'Roos took advantage of an error to even things up. The Scots put three runs across in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead, but Brandon Hill knocked in a run and Mason Woodhouse came home on an error to pull the 'Roos to within one at 4-3. However, the Scots plated five runs in the seventh to push the margin to 9-3, and Austin College was only able to get one more unearned run in the top of the eighth to make it a 9-4 final. Jake Trapani took the loss, giving up six runs - four earned - on nine hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings on the mound. Tino Ramirez went 2-for-5 to lead Austin College offensively.
