'Roo Baseball Shuts Out East Central

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team earned a shutout victory over NCAA Division II opponent East Central University on Tuesday in the team's home opener, topping the Tigers 2-0. The 'Roos are now 2-4 overall on the year.

Gavin Brady, Zack Czarnecky, and Brant Stuber combined for a one-hit shutout, with Brady earning the win after giving up just one hit in 5.1 innings of work, and Stuber came on to get the save after pitching a perfect ninth inning. Bryce Crawford took the loss for East Central, giving up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings on the mound. Tino Ramirez paced Austin College at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, as the team had six hits collectively.

The game was scoreless through four and a half innings, when Asher Thompson got the offense going in the bottom of the fifth with a base hit and advanced to second on a passed ball. Greg Smith drew a walk, and Brandon Hill singled through the right side to load the bases. Ramirez put Austin College on the board two batters later, ripping a single through the left side to score Thompson and Smith, and those would wind up being the only runs Austin College would need.

Up next for the 'Roos is a trip to Arkansas to take on Lyon College in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
