'Roo Baseball Splits with Arlington Baptist

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Austin College baseball team picked up its first victory of the season on Tuesday with a 7-4 road win over Arlington Baptist, before dropping a 12-9 decision in game two of the non-conference doubleheader. The 'Roos are now 1-4 overall on the year.

The 'Roos jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning of game one, as Jake Trapani doubled home a run and Asher Thompson added an RBI single. Brandon Hill came around to score in the second to make it a 3-0 game, before the Patriots plated three runs in the bottom of the second to even things up. Mason Woodhouse put Austin College ahead 4-3 on an RBI double by Mason Woodhouse, and he'd add another RBI in the fourth to put the 'Roos on top 5-3. Hill drove in another run in the top of the fifth to make it a 6-3 game and after the Patriots got one run back in the bottom of the inning, Austin College tacked on an insurance run to seal the win in the sixth when RayShawn Riley scored on a passed ball.

Riley finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Tino Ramirez went 4-for-4 as both players notched a double in the win. Woodhouse, Trapani, and Hill each had two hits to help the 'Roos earn their first victory of the season.

Austin College went on top 1-0 in the first inning of game two when Ramirez came home on an error, and Austin Carr tripled home two runs and later scored on a base knock by Ramirez to make it 4-0 through two frames. The Patriots rallied back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but a two-run homer by Trapani put the 'Roos ahead 6-4 after five. Carr scored on a passed ball in the sixth, and Hill added a two-run blast in the seventh to push the Austin College lead to 9-4. However, Arlington Baptist stormed back to square things up in the bottom of the seventh, and got a walk-off three-run homer from Francisco Ochoa in that same inning to hand the 'Roos a 12-9 defeat.

Ramirez finished the game 2-for-3 to lead Austin College offensively, as the 'Roos scored their nine runs on just seven hits. Ochoa went 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead ABU at the dish.
