Austin College Falls in Season Finale

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped its final game of the 2023 season by a score of 12-2 on Sunday afternoon at Baker Field, as the 'Roos finish the year with an overall record of 6-31.

Centenary struck early, plating a pair of runs in the opening frame to take a 2-0 lead. The margin grew to 5-0 in the top of the third, with Collin Pitts singling home a pair of runs to get things started for the Gents. Austin College got on the board in the fifth as Tripp Thoms doubled home a run and Mason Woodhouse later drew a walk with the bases full to cut it to a 5-2 game.

The Gents got one run back in the sixth to make it 6-2, and that's how things would stand heading into the ninth, when Centenary erupted for six runs to put the game out of reach at 12-2. Four of the six Centenary runs in the inning were unearned, following defensive miscues for the 'Roos.

Garrett Gray got the loss for Austin College, giving up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work, and Cody Myers got the victory in relief for the Gents, tossing 3.2 hitless and scoreless innings. Woodhouse finished 2-for-3 to pace Austin College at the plate, while Pitts was 4-for-5 for Centenary.
