Gents Sweep Doubleheader with 'Roos

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped a pair of games against visiting Centenary College on Saturday at Sherman High School, falling 13-0 in game one before suffering a 6-1 defeat in game two. The 'Roos and Gents wrap up the series on Sunday at noon at Baker Field.

After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Gents got on the board with a run in the top of the second and tacked on two more to make it a 3-0 game after three. That remained the score until the fifth, when Centenary pushed three more runs across, and the Gents would add three more in the sixth to make it a 9-0 game. Centenary would extend the lead to 13-0 with four more runs in the top of the seventh, and that's how things would end via the run rule.

Justin Lambright took the loss for Austin College, giving up six runs - five earned - on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of work, while Tyler Herrera got the win for Centenary after tossing six shutout innings and allowing only two hits in 6.0 innings of action. Mason Woodhouse had two of Austin College's three hits, while Gary Hewitt went 4-for-5 to lead the Gents.

Centenary would score one run in six different innings in game two as the Gents completed the twinbill sweep, with runs in the second and third innings to go ahead 2-0, followed single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The margin grew to 6-0 in the top of the ninth, with Austin College getting on the board in the team's final trips to the plate. Scott Hosmer singled to left field in the bottom of the ninth to bring Woodhouse across, making it a 6-1 final.

Trystan Mallory absorbed the loss for the 'Roos after surrendering four runs, including three earned, on 10 hits in 6.0 innings of action with four strikeouts. Parker Primeaux threw a complete game to get the win for the Gents, giving up one unearned run on four hits with 12 strikeouts. Hosmer went 2-for-3 to pace the 'Roos offensively, while three players each had three hits for Centenary.
