SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team held a 4-1 lead heading into the eighth inning on Friday night, but St. Thomas surged past the 'Roos with 11 runs over the final two innings in a 12-4 contest at Baker Field.

After two and a half scoreless innings, Austin College got on the board in the bottom of the third when Mason Woodhouse tripled and advanced home on an error to make it 1-0. The Celts responded with a solo homer in the fourth to even things up, but Ryan Padfield, Greg Smith, and Michael Hull each drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth to put the 'Roos ahead 4-1.

That's where things would stand heading into the eighth, when the 'Roos got two runners retired before St. Thomas got hot at the plate. The Celts brought home five runs in the inning, all with a pair of outs, to take a 6-4 lead. St. Thomas stayed hot offensively in the ninth, pushing six more runs across to make it 12-4 and Austin College was unable to mount a comeback bid of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

Trystan Mallory gave up two runs in the eighth to take the loss in relief, while Woodhouse went 3-for-3 and Smith finished the game 3-for-5 to pace the 'Roos. Dylan Lamb and Mason Seay each hit a home run for the Celts.
