Austin College Baseball Edged by SOSU

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team grabbed an early lead but was unable to hold off NCAA Division II opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday, falling 6-4 to the Savage Storm at Baker Field.

After a scoreless first inning, the 'Roos got on the board in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs beginning with an RBI single by Keaton High to take the lead over SOSU. Tripp Thoms added an RBI base knock of his own to make it a 2-0 game. Southeastern got a run back in the top of the third to make it a one run game, and the Savage Storm would push into the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs to make it a 4-2 game.

Jake Trapani notched an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and Branson Vrazel would come home on a passed ball in the same inning to even things up, but Southeastern would go back on top 5-4 in the top of the sixth and the lead would grew to 6-4 in the seventh. Austin College went into the ninth with a chance to even things up, but the 'Roos were retired in order as Colby Kroutil earned a three inning save for SOSU.

Brant Stuber got the loss for the 'Roos after surrendering a run on two hits in an inning of relief work, while Brant Bennett got the win for SOSU with 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Thoms finished 2-for-4 to pace Austin College, while Sam Creed went 2-for-5 with a run scored for Southeastern.
