'Roos Drop Road Game at TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped its series opener against Texas Lutheran on Friday, falling 11-1 to the Bulldogs after seven innings of play.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Bulldogs got on the board with a pair of runs in the second to surge ahead. They'd double that margin in the third, and the lead would grow to 7-0 with four innings in the books. Texas Lutheran got four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, with the final run coming home via a fielding error to make it an 11-0 game. Austin College finally managed to get on the board in the top of the seventh, but an RBI single by Tyler Ward was the only scoring for the 'Roos in the defeat.

Six different players each had a base hit for the 'Roos, with Ward going 1-for-3 with an RBI and Greg Smith going 1-for-2 and scoring a run. Justin Lambright took the loss, giving up 11 runs - seven earned - on nine hits and five walks with a pair of strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Blade Strzelczyk got the win for TLU, surrendering one run on six hits with 10 strikeouts in a complete game appearance. Niko Garcia paced the Bulldogs at the dish, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI.
