SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team carried a 6-1 lead into the ninth inning in their final game against the University of Dallas in the three game weekend series, but the Crusaders plated nine runs in the last frame to top the 'Roos 10-6 on Sunday at Baker Field.

Austin College jumped out on top early after taking advantage of some early Dallas errors, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first with Asher Thompson and Scott Hosmer each knocking in a run. The game remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth, when the Crusaders finally got on the board to cut the margin in half, but Austin College responded in the fifth when Hosmer and Jake Trapani scored on an errant pickoff attempt at third base that enabled both runners to come around and cross the plate to make it 4-1.

Trapani brought home another run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Brandon Hill scored on a wild pitch in the same inning to make it 6-1, and that's how things remained heading into the ninth. UD's Caleb Hohman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to get the big inning started for the Crusaders, and Brett Castillo drove in a pair of runs to cut it to a 6-4 game. A bases loaded walk pulled UD to within one, and David Saldana's two-run base hit put the Crusaders on top. Dallas would tack on three more runs in the inning to make it a 10-6 game. The 'Roos put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to push any runs across.

Ethan Nixon took the loss in relief for Austin College, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out in the ninth inning. Trapani, Hosmer, Mason Woodhouse, and Greg Smith each had a pair of hits for the 'Roos, and Saldana went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Crusaders.
