Texas Wesleyan Tops 'Roo Baseball

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team found itself in a big hole early and was unable to dig out, falling 16-4 to visiting Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday evening at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 4-14 overall on the year.

After a scoreless first inning, Texas Wesleyan erupted for eight runs in the second to take a commanding lead, beginning with a home run from Greyson Barrett to get the Rams on the board. Texas Wesleyan would add a grand slam from Jose Sosa later in the inning to help build their 8-0 lead. The margin grew to 12-0 in the third inning, but Austin College got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning when Brandon Hill belted a 2-run homer to make it a 12-2 game.

An error opened the door for two more Texas Wesleyan runs in the fourth, making it 14-2, but Ashton Cason and Hill each drove in a run in the bottom of the inning to get those two runs back for the 'Roos. However, the Rams tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 16-4, and that's how things would end after seven innings of action. Max Danielsen absorbed the loss for the 'Roos, surrendering three runs on a pair of hits in an inning of work. Greg Smith went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Hill finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Cason and Scott Hosmer each had a pair of hits for the 'Roos. TJ Tomlinson went 4-for-4 to lead Texas Wesleyan at the plate.
