SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team split its doubleheader with Lyon College on Saturday afternoon, narrowly falling 2-1 in game one before riding a dominant pitching performance from Trystan Mallory to a 5-1 game two victory. The 'Roos are now 4-6 overall this season.

Austin College struck first in game one as Tripp Thoms came home on an error in the bottom of the opening frame, but Lyon evened things up in the top of the second when a balk scored a runner from third. The score remained 1-1 until the top of the sixth, when Lyon plated the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly. Austin College got runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, but the 'Roos were unable to get the tying run home.

Justin Lambright took the loss in relief, giving up one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Mason Woodhouse went 2-for-3 at the plate, Brant Stuber had a double, and Brandon Hill knocked in a run for Austin College offensively.

In game two, Mallory surrendered just one unearned run on three hits with 14 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of action to help the 'Roos get the 5-1 win. Mallory set the tone early by striking out the side in the top of the first, and had 11 strikeouts through the first four innings on his way to setting a new career high.

Woodhouse brought home the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the third, and the shortstop would drive in another run in the fifth to make it 2-0. Hill added a 2-run double in that same frame to push the margin to 4-0 in favor of the 'Roos. The Scots got one run back in the sixth, but Hill doubled in another run in the seventh and that's how things would end as Ethan Nixon and Jake Trapani came on to pitch three hitless and scoreless innings in relief. Hill, Thoms, and Branson Vrazel each had two hits to pace the 'Roos at the plate.
