Park Tops 'Roos in Home Opener

SHERMAN, Texas - Park University put up eight runs over the first three innings and the Austin College baseball team was unable to bounce back, falling 12-1 to the visiting Pirates on Sunday in the home opener for the 'Roos. Austin College is now 1-1 on the year.

Park pushed four runs across in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Bryce Dye, and Dye would connect on another two-run shot in the second inning to make it a 6-0 game. The Pirates got two more runs in the third to make it 8-0 before Austin College got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, with Jake Trapani knocking a single into left field to score Ryan Padfield.

Park responded with three more runs in the fourth to make it an 11-1 game, and the Pirates would add one more run in the top of the seventh to make it a 12-1 final. Park finished the game with 20 hits, compared to seven for Austin College in the defeat. Garrett Gray took the loss for the 'Roos, surrendering six runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings of work, and Tripp Thoms went 2-for-5 to pace the 'Roos at the plate. Dye finished 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBI for Park, and Hunter Edwards got the win for the Pirates, giving up one run on five hits with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

Austin College is back in action on Tuesday, when they host Dallas Christian at 6:00 p.m.
