Austin College Baseball Falls to St. Thomas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped a 7-3 game to wrap up its weekend series against St. Thomas on Sunday, bringing the 'Roos to 5-14 overall on the season.

The Celts took advantage of three errors by the 'Roos, with six of their seven runs unearned in the game. St. Thomas got the scoring started in the first inning with a pair of runs to make it 2-0, but Jake Webster drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. Trey Escobedo hit an RBI single for St. Thomas in the second to make it 3-1, and Caleb Edmonds hit a three-run homer to push the UST lead to 6-1 heading into the third.

That remained the score until the fifth inning, when Sergio De Paoli had an RBI single to plate Justin Alphonse and make it 6-2, and Beau Beshires drew a walk with the bases full to make it a 6-3 game. However, an error opened the door for another St. Thomas run in the seventh to make it 7-3, and Austin College was unable to mount a comeback over their final three turns at bat. Austin College left 16 runners on base in the game.

Nick Flynn and Zack Mahoney each had a pair of hits for Austin College, while Jake Trapani took the loss for the 'Roos, giving up seven runs - only one earned - on seven hits in 7.0 innings of work.
