'Roo Baseball Falls to Centenary in SCAC Opener

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 12-0 loss to visiting Centenary College on Friday night at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 4-13 overall and 0-1 in the SCAC, and will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow with a doubleheader against the Gents at 11:00 a.m.

After two scoreless innings to open the game, Centenary got on the board with three unearned runs in the third as two errors opened the door for the Gents. Centenary would add six more runs in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead, and a homer by Chris Zapata in the sixth would extend the Centenary lead to 11-0. The gents would tack on one more run in the seventh, as Zane Wilkinson came home on a passed ball.

Josh Lewis absorbed the loss for Austin College, surrendering nine runs – five earned – on 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work with three strikeouts. Austin Dudley went 1-for-3 with a triple and Scott Gelbart went 1-for-3 as the 'Roos were limited to two hits by Centenary pitcher Kaleb Kirk, who struck out 13 in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
