Crusaders Defeated by Roos in Final Preseason Match

SHERMAN, Texas -  The University of Dallas women's soccer team lost their non-conference match against Austin College 2-0 on Friday.  They fall to 2-6-1 on the season as they enter conference play next week.

It wasn't for lack of effort that the Crusaders came up short, as they outshot the Roos 25-9 on the night.  After a goalless first half, the Roos opened the scoring not even three minutes into the second half.

A difficult through ball called Allison Zilafro into action as she came off her line to close the attacker.  With a defender on her back, the attacker managed to just barely poke the ball under Zilafro as the two collided and was awarded a penalty for being brought down in the box.

The Crusaders responded well and nearly equalized immediately after the penalty was scored.  Sarata Bello had what was arguably the best scoring chance of the game, receiving the ball in the middle of the box from an endline cutback.  She touched and fired a shot at goal, but her effort fizzed just wide of the left post.

The Roos doubled their lead in the 61st minute.  On a shot from near the edge of the box, Zilafro was once again called into action and made a solid top hand save, but was unlucky that her touch pushed the ball off the crossbar and down as it trickled into the goal.

Dallas continuend their onslaught as they fought tooth and nail to get back into the game, but never found the back of the net.

The Crusaders rap up preseason with a 2-6-1 record and will start conference play next weekend on the road.  Trinity is first on the docket, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 pm on Saturday, Oct. 6.
