'Roos Sweep CWPA Weekly Awards

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College women's water polo players Brooke Le, Valery Piachonkina, and Molly Corso have swept the Collegiate Water Polo Association weekly awards after their outstanding play in guiding the 'Roos to a 4-0 weekend.

Le, a sophomore from Flower Mound, was named the CWPA Player of the Week after scoring 13 goals for the 'Roos while adding seven assists, six steals, and six ejections drawn over the four game stretch. Competing at Monmouth College on Saturday-Sunday, March 7-8, the 2019 CWPA Division III Championship runner-up Kangaroos came out on fire as Le put away four goals during a 22-6 knockout of the host Fighting Scots.  Later in the day on March 7, she scored a game-high four goals as Austin upended the three-time (2017, 2018, 2019) defending CWPA Division III Champion Scots of Division III No. 8 Macalester College, 13-8. On Sunday, March 8, she netted four goals in a 17-5 victory over Wittenberg University prior to finding the back of the cage once in a 19-6 handling of Carthage College.

Piachonkina, a sophomore from Castro Valley, California, registered 26 saves with 14 assists and 18 steals during a 4-0 league weekend hosted by Monmouth College.  For her performance, she earns the March 9 CWPA Division III Defensive Player of the Week award. A three-time weekly recipient from the league office after sharing the March 4 Defensive Player of the Week award in 2019 before taking the February 3 Defensive Player of the Week honor earlier this season, Piachonkina earned the win in all four wins for the Kangaroos versus Monmouth, Division III No. 8 Macalester College, Wittenberg University, and Carthage College.

Corso, a freshman from Longwood, Florida, totaled six goals, an assist, two steals and a pair of ejections drawn during a 4-0 league weekend at Monmouth College for the Kangaroos to earn status as the CWPA III Rookie of the Week. Competing in her first CWPA Division III league games, Corso netted pairs of goals versus the host Fighting Scots, Division III No. 8 Macalester College, and Carthage College, while also aiding in a 17-5 defeat of Wittenberg University.
