Women's Water Polo Cracks CWPA Top 10

SHERMAN, Texas – After winning three straight to close out last weekend's Collegiate Water Polo Association tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Austin College women's water polo team has entered the CWPA Division III Top 10. The 'Roos are now ranked No. 10 in the nation as they get read for the CWPA Championships beginning April 12 in New London, Connecticut.

The first-year program under head coach Mark Lawrence picked up wins over Monmouth, then ranked No. 10 nationally, as well as Carthage and Wittenberg to improve to 6-8 overall on the year, as well as 5-3 in CWPA play. The 'Roos clinched the No. 3 overall seed in the CWPA Championships, with six of the team's losses this season coming against teams ranked nationally and another coming against NCAA Division I opponent Cal State Northridge. 

Over the course of the season, three 'Roos have been recognized as the CWPA Rookie of the Week, while Valery Piachonkina and Presley Woods have earned CWPA Defensive Player of the Week and Player of the Week honors, respectively. The 'Roos open the the CWPA Championships on Friday, April 12 against No. 6-seed Penn State Behrend at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.
