Austin College Volleyball Opens with Pair of Sweeps

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 sweeps to open the 2022 season on Thursday, topping Paul Quinn and Champion Christian in the first of six games they'll be playing in Hughey Gym this weekend.

Against Paul Quinn, the 'Roos took game one by a score of 25-14 and followed that up with a 25-18 win in game two, wrapping things up with a 25-21 victory to earn the match victory. Victoria Smith, TJ Folse, and Riley Abernethy each had seven kills for Austin College, with Abernethy also boasting a .636 hitting percentage in the victory. Madison Manning had 16 assists and four service aces in her collegiate debut, and Brianne Tseng added 13 assists for the 'Roos.

The 'Roos wrapped up the evening by topping Champion Christian by scores of 25-13 in each of the first two sets, and after going ahead 17-3 in the third game the 'Roos coasted to a 25-15 win to complete their second sweep of the day. Folse had eight kills to pace Austin College and Smith added seven, while Olivia Linton chipped in five in a balanced attack. Manning had 18 assists to lead Austin College and Tseng added 12 to go along with eight digs, and Chloe Miller had 18 digs for the 'Roos.
