'Roo Volleyball Clinches Spot in SCAC Tournament

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College volleyball team topped both Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Sunday, clinching a berth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend. The 'Roos finish the regular season with a 16-16 overall record and a 7-9 mark in conference play.

After falling 3-1 to Trinity and 3-0 to host-team Centenary on Saturday, the 'Roos bounced back and secured the No. 6-seed in the conference championship with a 3-1 win over Schreiner and a 3-2 victory over TLU. Against Schreiner, the 'Roos split the first two sets 25-16 and 23-25 before winning the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-17. Mayson Kennon and Aelyn Rodriguez each had 11 kills to lead the way, with Brooke Harris adding nine. Kennon also had 16 digs in the match, while Mari Prazak paced the 'Roos with 19 digs. Brooklyn Talley had a team-best 23 assists in the victory.

The 'Roos went into the final match of the regular season needing a win to advance to the tournament, as Austin College and TLU were had identical conference records heading into the match. The 'Roos fell 25-23 in the first set before a dominating 25-12 win in set two, and then cruised to a 25-15 win in the third set to go ahead 2-1. Texas Lutheran evened things up with a 25-14 win in the fourth set, but Austin College clinched the match with a 15-9 fifth set victory. 

Harris led the 'Roos with 11 kills, and Kristen Massey and Kennon each added eight. Kennon added 13 digs, and Prazak once again led Austin College with 24 digs. Talley and Sam Fawcett each had 19 assists, while Hannah Arbaugh added 15 digs in the win. The 'Roos had 15 service aces as a team, with both Kennon and Arbaugh leading the way with four apiece.
