Duong, Dodd Headline Women's Tennis All-SCAC Selections

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. –Austin College freshman Melody Duong has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, and head coach Ryan Dodd has been named the Coach of the Year for the second straight season as the SCAC has announced its women's tennis All-Conference selections for 2018.

Duong was also named first team All-SCAC, along with Diana Carvajalino, while Anna Sergiovanni and Grace Ortiz were both honorable mention selections.

Duong, a native of League City, is currently the No. 20-ranked player in the West Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after posting a 10-6 singles record, including eight victories at line one. She also teamed with Ortiz to form the No. 13-ranked doubles team in the West Region.

Carvajalino, a sophomore from Hurst, is the No. 25-ranked player in the West Region in singles competition. This season she posted a 14-5 record, including an 8-3 mark at line two singles, while also pairing with Sergiovanni to earn seven doubles victories. Five of those wins came at line one.

Sergiovanni, a sophomore from Richardson, led Austin College with 15 singles victories, including an 11-2 mark at line three. She was also 3-0 at line two, and during the season defeated two first team All-SCAC selections in head-to-head competition.

Ortiz, a senior from Manchaca, was named All-Conference for the fourth straight season after earning eight singles victories, including two at line three and a 3-0 mark at line six. Along with Duong, she formed one of the best doubles teams in the region, earning 13 victories, with six coming at line one and six coming at line two.

After earning Co-Coach of the Year honors last season, Dodd won the award outright this year after guiding the 'Roos to their second consecutive third place finish at the SCAC Tournament, as well as a No. 12-ranking in the West Region. The 'Roos finished the year with a record of 13-8 overall.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
