Austin College Women Take 5th at AC Invite

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's swimming and diving team faced some strong competition in the final home meet of the season, as the 'Roos finished fifth at the AC Invite on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Roos scored 242 points to take fifth out of six competing teams, finishing ahead of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Centenary at the end of the event. Sophie Garriga had a strong showing in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:25.95 to take fourth place, and added a fifth place finish in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:25.54. Katie Voelkel added a fifth place finish of her own in the 200 yard breaststroke, touching with a time of 2:59.14, while Sarah Edzards was fifth in the 500 free with a time of 6:08.23 and fifth in the 1000 yard free with a time of 12:37.80.

Voelkel also had a sixth place finish in the 200 freestyle, coming in with a time of 2:11.63, just ahead of the seventh place finish by Jennifer Liang. Liang touched with a time of 2:12.95 in the event. Edzards added a seventh place finish in the 100 free, and Garriga was sixth in the 100 yard individual medley. Mandi Sarembock finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke, and Brittany Maynard was eighth in the 50 free.
