Colorado College Tops 'Roo Women's Hoops

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team committed 20 first half turnovers and Colorado College was lights out from beyond the arc as they built a 51-18 lead at the break, and the 'Roos couldn't make up the ground in the second half in an 81-37 defeat on Sunday afternoon.

The 'Roos turned the ball over 12 times in the opeing quarter and the Tigers put 28 points on the board in the opening frame, taking a 28-11 lead into quarter number two. The Tiger defense would clamp down further in the second quarter, limiting Austin College to 3-of-13 shooting and just seven points. Colorado College knocked down 5-of-11 threes in the quarter, ending the opening half hitting 9-of-22 from beyond the arc as a team to help build their big lead.

Austin College took better care of the ball in the second half but still couldn't get much going offensively, shooting 28.6% in the third and 18.2% from the field in the fourth. The 'Roos finished the game connecting on just 27.1% from the field and hit only 3-of-15 three point attempts, and Colorado College grabbed 16 offensive rebounds on their way to 13 second chance points. The Tigers also scored 28 points off of turnovers, compared to four for Austin College.

Sarah Putnicki was the lone 'Roo to reach double figures in the scoring column, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds. Megan O'Neil hit all three of Austin College's triples on her way to nine points, and Naomi Anamekwe grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Laura Strenk led a balanced effort for Colorado College with 13 points and Tedy Reed came off the bench to contribute 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
