Big Second Half Lifts 'Roos Past Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team found itself trailing 37-32 at halftime but the No. 22-ranked 'Roos took control after the break on their way to a 77-62 victory at Schreiner on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 18-2 overall and 11-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Ally Longaker scored 17 points and Reagan Chiaverini recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards to lead the charge for Austin College. The 'Roos jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but trailed 20-19 after the first quarter, and Schreiner pushed the lead to 37-26 before Austin College scored the final six points in the half to close the gap to 37-32 heading into the locker room. The run continued into the third quarter, with the 'Roos outscoring Schreiner 8-2 in the opening minutes to take a 40-39 lead on a bucket by Ann Savage with seven minutes left in the period.

Kacie West's triple made it 43-39, and the 'Roos wouldn't look back, taking a 55-49 lead into the fourth. Maddy Hubych gave Austin College a 64-51 lead with a basket and a pair of free throws early in the final quarter, and Longaker and Natalie McCoy combined for eight points in the final three minutes and change to seal the victory. McCoy finished with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting coming off the bench for Austin College, and West scored 12 in the win.

Austin College heads to San Antonio on Saturday evening, where they'll square off against No. 14-ranked Trinity with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
