'Roos Cruise to Win at Dallas

IRVING, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team raced out to a 49-20 halftime lead and never looked back, topping the University of Dallas 78-53 on Tuesday night in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The 'Roos are now 14-2 overall and 7-2 in conference competition.

The 'Roos got out to a bit of a slow start offensively and led 14-10 with just under two minutes left in the first quarter, but a 6-0 run to close things out sent them into the second quarter leading 20-10. Austin College carried that momentum into the second, getting out to a 29-14 lead with just under seven minutes left before halftime, and after Dallas scored to make it 36-19 the 'Roos finished the half with a 13-1 run over the final three minutes of the period.

Austin College would coast from there, using a balanced effort led by 15 points off the bench from Natalie McCoy and 14 more from Sarah Gwin in the victory. Overall, the 'Roos got 47 points from their bench and hounded the Crusaders into 26 turnovers. Austin College turned it over just five times in the game and knocked down nine triples as a team while holding Dallas to 35.8% shooting, including 5-of-23 from long range.

McCoy added three rebounds and three steals and Gwin hit 6-of-9 shot attempts, while Reagan Chiaverini and Ann Savage each scored nine. Kacie West chipped in eight points, and Ally Longaker grabbed seven boards and handed out seven assists in the win.

Austin College will be back home on Saturday as they take on Dallas again, this time with tipoff set for 4:00 p.m.
