Wheeler Makes 'Roo History at SCAC Championship

Lauren Wheeler set a new Austin College record in the 100 backstroke and became the first 'Roo swimmer in program history to win a gold medal at the SCAC Championship on Friday night.

Wheeler's time of 57.99 in the 100 back broke her own school record and gave her the program's first ever win at the SCAC Meet, while also earning her All-Conference honors for the third straight year. Sophie Anderson, Caitlyn Brugger, Sarah Mann, Simran Likhari, and Oksana Gil all had strong performances on the night as well, with each swimmer earning points to help keep the 'Roos in fifth place at the championship.

On the men's side, Braedon Mitchell finished fifth in the 100 backstroke, after earlier setting a school record in the event during prelims with a time of 52.75. Parker Adams finished fourth in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 225.30, and Josh Chanin took seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.49. Mitchell and Chanin joined Amit Pullarkat and Collin Vu on the 400 medley relay team, and the quartet set a new program record with a time of 3:37.54, besting the old record by more than three seconds, to finish fifth in the event.

Pullarkat, Vu, Jake Cole, and Erik Gentzel all earned points on the day to keep the 'Roos in fifth place at the meet.
