Three AC Records Fall at SCAC Swim Meet

Three Austin College swimming and diving program records fell on the first full day of the 2013 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Thursday. Josh Chanin, Lauren Wheeler, and the women's 200 freestyle relay team all set new all-time Austin College bests. The 'Roos are currently in fifth place on both the men's and women's sides.

On the men's side, Chanin swam the 200 individual medley prelims in a time of 2:01.98, breaking the old school record in that event, and finished 16th overall at the meet in that event. Kelly Zapp took 16th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.48, dropping more than 30 seconds from his prelim time.

Jacob Fenster was another 16th place finisher, swimming the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.62, and Zack Bengston took fourth place in the 1-meter diving competition.

On the women's side, Wheeler took fourth place in the 50 freestyle, breaking her own school record in both the prelims and finals. In the finals she set a new school mark with a time of 24.67, making this the fourth time this season she's set a new Austin College record in the event.

Wheeler also teamed with Maggie Autry, Dory Johnson, and Anne Booker to finish fifth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:45.08, which was another Austin College record. Brett Grieder also had a strong finish in the 500 freestyle with a 16th place finish and a time of 6:22.78.
