SHERMAN, Texas – Trinity used offensive outbursts in the seventh inning of both games in a doubleheader against the Austin College softball team on Sunday, handing the 'Roos a 12-2 loss in game one and a 5-1 defeat in game two. The 'Roos fall to 5-29 overall and 2-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In game, the Tigers struck first with a run in the top of the second, but Austin College answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run base hit by Courtney Gonzales to make it a 2-1 game. However, Trinity would plate four runs in the third to go on top 5-2, with Danielle Ruiz knocking a two-run double to get the inning started.

That remained the score until the top of the seventh, when Marina Trevino's bases-clearing double jump started a seven run frame for the Tigers that put Trinity on top 12-2, and that's how things would end. Kat Wright took the loss for Austin College, surrendering five runs (four earned) on four hits in 3.0 innings of work. Gonzales finished 1-for-3 and Jordan Proctor went 2-for-3.

The Tigers once again scored first in game two, with an error opening the door for a run to come across in the first inning to make it 1-0. Austin College answered back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Cassidy McDaris to square things up, and the score would remain knotted until the top of the seventh.

Trinity would take advantage of a pair of Austin College errors to push four runs across in the frame, and the 'Roos were unable to answer in their final at bat. Tori Herrera absorbed the loss, surrendering five runs (all unearned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts.

McDaris finished 2-for-3 to lead the way at the plate for the 'Roos, who committed six errors in the game.

Austin College will play its final home doubleheader of 2017 on Thursday evening, when the 'Roos host Brooklyn College at Old Settlers Park.
